Yes, I understand that pupils who exhibit ADHD’s hallmark symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity can be frustrating. They behave differently and they seem not to act the way you want them to. The brain work is there though they seem not to follow suite as supposed.

Students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD or ADD) have a hard time doing most of the required setting of the school. There are times pupils ought to sit quietly, perform some brain work, Listen quietly, Pay attention, and Follow instructions in order to Concentrate.

Common challenges ADHD Pupils Encounter

  • Pupils with ADHD have trouble following instructions, especially when they’re presented in a list, and with operations that require ordered steps, such as long division or solving equations.
  • Pupils with ADHD often forget to write down homework assignments, do them, or bring completed work to school.
  • Pupils with ADHD often lack fine motor control, which makes note-taking difficult and handwriting a trial to read.
  • Pupils with ADHD usually have problems with long-term projects where there is no direct supervision.
  • They demand attention by talking out of turn or moving around the room
  • They don’t pull their weight during group work and may even keep a group from accomplishing its task.

Children with attention deficit disorder and/or learning disabilities can be a challenge for any classroom teacher.

How To Help Children whose attention seems to wander or who never seem to “be with” the rest of the class

  1. Alternate physical and mental activities.
  2. Ask a simple question (not even related to the topic at hand) to a child whose attention is beginning to wander.
  3. Children whose attention seems to wander or who never seem to “be with” the rest of the class might be helped by the following suggestions:
  4. Decrease the length of assignments or lessons.
  5. Develop a private running joke between you and the child that can be invoked to re-involve you with the child.
  6. Give simple, concrete instructions, once.
  7. Incorporate the children’s interests into a lesson plan.
  8. Increase the novelty of lessons by using films, tapes, flash cards, or small group work or by having a child call on others.
  9. Pause and create suspense by looking around before asking questions.
  10. Randomly pick reciters so the children cannot time their attention.
  11. Stand close to an inattentive child and touch him or her on the shoulder as you are teaching.
  12. Structure in some guided daydreaming time.
  13. Use the child’s name in a question or in the material being covered.
  14. Walk around the classroom as the lesson is progressing and tap the place in the child’s book that is currently being read or discussed.

Conclusion

Teaching techniques that help students with ADHD focus and maintain their concentration on your lesson and their work can be beneficial to the entire class.

Some children have difficulty staying with the task at hand. Their verbalization seem irrelevant and their performance indicates that they are not thinking reflectively about what they are doing.

Help In supporting children with ADHD grow mentally stronger.
