Olam Group invites African students to apply for its funded scholarship at Harvard University in the USA. The Scholarship will funded two students from Sub-Saharan Africa to study at Harvard.

Eligibility Status
  • Candidates must be nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa regardless of their current country of residence, and will need to demonstrate:
    • academic achievement and promise
    • teamwork as well as personal ownership to deliver
    • leadership potential and entrepreneurial spirit;
    • and a commitment to contributing to their country or region at the end of the course.
  • All applications will be assessed on merit by the individual partner universities.

While there is another deadline for April 4, 2016 (for Round 3), you are however strongly advised to apply in Round 2 so that you can have enough time to process your visa if you are accepted for admission.

University of Leeds, UK 2018 Doctoral Scholarships for International Students

University of Leeds, UK invites applications for doctoral scholarships for UK/EU or international applicants for the 2018/2019 academic session.

The UK/EU Scholarships Successful applicants will receive payment to cover their University tuition fees up to three years, along with a maintenance grant matching the Research Council UK rate (£14,296 for 2018/19).
Eligibility Status:
Interested applicants must:
  • Be a  UK/EU or International fee-paying, applicant
  • Have achieved at least a First Class Honours degree or are applicants who have a 2.1 as those who have postgraduate degrees*
  • Meet the English Language requirements of your programme of study if English is not your first language  (UK/EU applicants – prior  to or at registration; international applications  – by the relevant scholarship deadline)
  • Not have already been awarded or are currently studying for a doctoral degree
  • Not  already be in receipt of a doctoral scholarship
  • Have submitted a research degree application form and be in receipt of a student ID number
  • Applicants must have achieved at least a First Class Honours degree or are applicants who have a 2.1 as those who have postgraduate degrees.

Carnegie PhD 2018 Scholarships at Scotland University

Carnegie Trust in Scotland offers PhD scholarships for International students to be held at a Scottish university for 2018/2019 Academic Session.

The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland was created by Andrew Carnegie on 7 June 1901 and was incorporated by Royal Charter on 21 August 1902. The Trust was funded by a gift of US$10 million – a then unprecedented sum, yielding over £100,000 per year at a time when the total government assistance to all four Scottish universities was only about £50,000 a year.

Benefits
The annual value of a Scholarship was £16,200 for the academic year 2017-2018 and normally rises in line with awards funded by Research Councils.

Payment of the Scholarship stipend is made monthly, in advance, normally starting on 1st October.

In addition, the Trust will cover tuition fees at the Research Councils UK (RCUK) Indicative Fee Level for the relevant academic year (universities are expected to waive any outstanding balance).

The Trust will support the Scholars with expenses incurred in connection with their study or research up to £3,000 during the tenure of the Ph.D. Scholarship. Scholars can apply for this funding using a research allowance form, which will be emailed to them in advance.

Scholars may retain in any one year, without deduction:
up to a maximum of £3,000 derived from bursaries, scholarships or prizes b. up to a maximum of £3,500 derived from fees from teaching and demonstrating.

A total of 16 scholarships are available for doctoral studies starting in 2018-19.

Eligibility Status
  • A First-Class Honours degree from a Scottish university is a pre-requisite for consideration for Scholarships. This First Class Honours degree must be in a subject related to the field of the proposed doctoral studies. Alongside existing graduates, final year undergraduate students expecting to achieve a First-Class Honours degree are also eligible for nomination. Please note that no exemptions are made to this requirement and nominations for students who do not hold a First Class Undergraduate Honours degree will not be accepted, except in faculties which do not award Honours, e.g. Medicine, where the equivalent standard will be expected Where an award is made in advance of graduation, it will be conditional on obtaining a First Class Honours degree.
  • A student who has already commenced study for a research degree (MPhil, PhD or equivalent) is not eligible.
  • The candidate must be nominated by the prospective supervisor of the PhD project and can only be submitted for consideration for a Carnegie or Caledonian PhD Scholarship by one Scottish university.
  • The number of submissions per Scottish university is subject to a quota (announced annually by the Trust). Each university must select its preferred candidates, according to its quota, in sufficient time to permit submission of the online application and endorsement forms ahead of the Trust’s deadline. The current quota for nominations is available in the appendix to these Regulations.
  • The university selected candidates must register their details on the Trust’s online application system and complete an online application form. The application portal will open 4 weeks before the closing date for submissions and will be made available to the selected candidates by the administrator in charge of the selection process for the scholarships at their university. The name of the university contact is listed in the regulations for the scheme and applicant guide downloadable under the Guidelines and Regulations tab.
  • Ahead of the submission deadline, the PhD candidate’s application must be endorsed online by their prospective supervisor. As part of the nomination process, the prospective supervisor must also upload an Institutional Statement of Support completed by a senior academic in the relevant Departmental/School: Head, Deputy Head, Research Director, Postgraduate Studies Director or Dean. The institutional statement of support must also include the signature of a university representative who can confirm the nominee is one of its chosen candidates. The form is available from the university contact listed in the appendix to the Regulations and under the Guidelines and Regulations tab.
  • The full online application and endorsement by the prospective supervisor for the selected candidates must be completed and submitted online to the Trust by 28th February 2018, 5:00 pm. The awards are announced by the end of May each year.
  • Nominators and Nominees are under an obligation to inform the Trust without delay of any changes to the circumstances of the Nominee, including any awards received and/or examination results obtained after the nomination has been submitted.

The King's Studentship Worth of Award
The studentship is for three years and will cover tuition fees and an annual stipend of £16,553. In order to prepare students for academic careers, individuals receiving a studentship will be expected to undertake some teaching and/or mark activities in the School.

Note: Any teaching undertaken will attract payment in addition to the stipend.

Applicants should use the ‘Research Proposal’ section of the application form (approx. 500 words) to set out their doctoral thesis and project in summary. They should use the ‘Personal Statement’ section (approx. 500 words) of the application form to set out their academic background and interests and their reasons for wanting to pursue postgraduate research study in the School.

Jamb Boss, has directed all parents of Prospective UTME Candidates "NOT TO FORCE THEIR CHILDREN/WARDS ON SELECTION OF UTME COURSES AHEAD OF THE 2018/2019 POST-UTME.

The JAMB boss gave the advice while speaking at a one day critical stakeholders meeting on Plans and Modalities for the sale and registration of 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) application form and seamless admission into tertiary institutions at Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu, Ogun States. 

According to the JAMB Boss, most candidates failed to secure admission into higher institutions not as a result of poor performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test, but improper filling of their application forms and wrong choice of course of study that did not match the subjects such candidates sat for. 

He said, “Apart from parents pressure on candidates choice of course, it has also been observed that most of them failed to gain admission into the institutions of their choice as a result of improper filling of the forms and wrong subjects combination.” 

Other factors as listed by Oloyede include the use of special centres, engagement of proxy to purchase forms and last minutes preparations by candidates.

UNN Signs MoU with HAUWEI Chinese ICT Giant

The Management of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has agreed on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HUAWEI, a Chinese ICT giant last week Friday.

The V.C, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, signed on behalf of the university, while Mr. Simon Zhang, the Channel Service Project Manager signed on behalf of Hauwei. In a remark, Prof. Ozumba said the Hauwei Academy Program would benefit both workers and students of the university. “ICT is the backbone of technology and innovations in very part of the world.

Both UNN and Huawei will benefit from the MoU. The university has forty five thousand students. ‎I am optimistic that UNN will live up to the expectations contained in the MoU, ” he said. Ozumba commended the ICT giant for finding the UNN worthy to establish it’s academy; and pledged the support of both staff and students.

“We are establishing our first Huawei academy in UNN; and from here, we will reach other universities in Nigeria. “I thank the VC and university management for their approval of the establishment of the academy in UNN,” he said.

The Senior Solutions Architect Enterprise Marketing & Sales Manager said the academy is the first establishment in any federal Universities in Nigeria, adding that very soon, Huawei would establish an innovative center in UNN. “We can create a technology that will discover talents and make people to think innovatively.

“Huawei Academy programme will help students to kick-start their career by preparing them for work in the ICT industry.

“The academy will also help them to build their knowledge and confidence, develop their ICT skills as well as encourage them to gain globally recognition and get Huawei certificate,” he said.
